Style, Philosophy & Approach:
The Wedding and Special Event

My style is best categorized as photojournalistic. I believe that your photos and video should tell the story of your special day as it unfolded. I do not seek to create moments; I merely try to capture them as beautifully as I can. I do this by watching and listening to my environment I am merely an observer of your day. You can expect that I will be unobtrusive and that I will shoot 90% of the photos without any posing or instruction. I will do some subtle posing and adjustments when I feel it is necessary or it will yield a great shot without looking unnatural. I am an artist and I do have a specific style that is uniquely mine; but I do believe that photos have a purpose and a function beyond art alone. I capture the moments that tell your story and I want you and your guests to be themselves. I want to capture everyone's true beauty without forcing them into a rigid formula.

I am unique among photographers in that I have full complete weddings on my website for all to see. I want you to get the real picture of a wedding from start to finish not just the 10-30 best shots. I am proud of my work and I want all my clients to understand my style and approach. The best way to understand how I shot is to see it for yourself. I make a full length wedding video available for viewing as well.

The Engagement Session:

I strongly recommend you consider an engagement session. The wedding day is a joyous but very busy day, pick a separate day where we can get together for an hour or two and just focus on capturing the two of you. I will make suggestions and help you pick out a place and what to wear. This is also a great time for us to get to know each other and get comfortable working together. You can also purchase a framed sign in photo or sign in photo book.

The Wedding

Preparations:

This is one of my favorite parts of the day, I will capture all the moments that lead up to the ceremony. I am a firm believer that every bride is beautiful and never more so than on her wedding day. I will be a fly on the wall for most of this time period and I will leave the room whenever you want. I want you to be comfortable above all else, and your beauty will come through. If there is time I like to spend 10-30 minutes with the bride after she has dressed, I will give you some instruction and I will put you in a spot that is the most flattering. I want to put you at ease as I capture these wonderful moments.

The Groom:

The groom is important also and I will capture him preparing as well in the same manner that I capture the bride.

If there is time I like to do the formals with the bridal parties at this time. Once again I try to let people stand were they want to be. I believe people are photographed at their best when they are natural and at ease. I will give a little instruction and move some of my subjects as little as possible. I want the formals to be fun and relaxed. You should look at them and see the people you love as they are.

Another special moment is when the bride and the groom first see each other. Sometimes this can be before the ceremony if you prefer. I may suggest where this can happen, but after that I am there to observe the two of you in this magical moment.

Details, Details, Details:

Details really help you remember the day; the rows of chairs, the flowers, a drape blowing in the wind, the wedding bands. All of these small details are beautiful and help to tell the story.

The Ceremony:

I am once again the observer, with my long lens I try to capture every detail of this time. From his expression as you walk down the aisle, to a tear down your father's face. I stay out of the way with a long lens and let the focus stay on you.

Formals:

I am a big believer that formals can be fun and relaxed. I try to put people at ease and let them be themselves. I strongly suggest that you provide me with a list of all the pairings that you want. It is also helpful to assign a trusting bridesmaid or relative to assist me with gathering everyone and moving them in for the shots. I recommend you budget at least 90 seconds for each picture that you want and two to three minutes for group shots over ten.

Party!

The reception is a joyous time and I aim to capture it. Once again I am mostly shooting things as they happen, but I am not afraid to set-up the occasional shot. I may suggest a flower girl throws flower petals my way or pose the winners of the garter toss and bouquet together. We will capture all the joy and fun as it unfolds.

Head Shots and Portraiture

We will discuss the focus and purpose of your session. I will then make suggestions regarding the look, style and location for the shoot. I believe in a simple naturalistic approach to portraits and I want to put you at ease so I can capture you at your best. I usually work outside in the early morning or late afternoon. I do have a small studio space in Van Nuys that I can use when the project calls for it.

Events, Corporate Advertising & Editorial

I love the diversity of my work, I am always learning and accepting different kinds of projects to grow my skills and creativity. I have photographed everything from jazz record recording sessions, to Hollywood premier parties, to birthdays and corporate events. I have shot for clothing labels, television networks and ink manufacturers. I believe the diversity of my work keeps me thinking creatively and that all my projects enrich my experience and my ability to present my clients with a fresh and dynamic product.

I recently shot a new advertising campaign for AAMCO. I photographed AAMCO's new spokespersons Indy Racer Sarah Fisher and Mike Petroni aka "Double A." I shot publicity stills on location of the new commercial and then in a studio with Sarah Indy car in Indianapolis. You can see me at the beginning of two of the current AAMCO ads. Don't blink or you will miss me: www.inmotionstudios.com. (I am the one with the camera)

No two projects are alike so I will work with you to create a budget, style and plan for each project. My rates are based on time and complexity and are very reasonable, I almost always grant full release of copyright to my clients. I love to travel and am happy to do so for my clients.
